Martin’s Mandolin strings are made from 80/20 bronze. This means that the bronze is made from an alloy of 80 percent copper and 20 percent zinc. The bronze wire is wrapped around a tin plated steel core wire. This gives the strings its brightness, overtones and projection.
The sets are divided into Standard and Blue grass. The blue grass set has bright treble strings that is distinctive of the blue grass sound. The blue grass set also generates more tension than the standard set, so it’s provably not a good idea for vintage instruments.
